On August 15, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu distributed financial aid exceeding Rs 20.61 crore to a total of 4,967 recipients. This allocation was made under various welfare schemes administered by the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board during the state-level Independence Day event held in Barsar. The initiative aims to assist a diverse range of beneficiaries across multiple categories.

Among the various financial support schemes, the Marriage Assistance Scheme saw 1,758 beneficiaries receiving a total of Rs 8.98 crore. Additionally, the Education Assistance Scheme provided Rs 7.89 crore to 2,788 recipients. Medical assistance amounting to Rs 3.54 lakh was allocated to seventeen individuals, further showcasing the government’s commitment to aiding its citizens.

Further provisions included Rs 1.49 crore for 60 beneficiaries under the Death and Funeral Assistance Scheme, while 109 individuals received Rs 38.02 lakh through the Maternity and Paternity Assistance Scheme. The initiatives reflect the government’s intention to address various humanitarian needs within the community.

Additional Support Initiatives Outlined

The financial support extended also comprised Rs 89.77 lakh allocated to 68 beneficiaries for housing construction. Additionally, 63 beneficiaries benefited from Rs 12 lakh under the Mentally Disabled Assistance Scheme. Furthermore, 61 single, deserted, and differently-abled women received Rs 61 lakh, while 39 beneficiaries were granted Rs 19.89 lakh under the Child Birth Gift Scheme. These measures highlight the government’s multifaceted approach to social welfare.

During the event, Chief Minister Sukhu acknowledged the service of Dr Rajendra Kanwar, a 77-year-old retired Senior Medical Officer, who has donated his entire movable and immovable wealth, valued at over Rs 80 crore, to the Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College and Hospital in Hamirpur. The CM praised Dr Kanwar’s altruism as an exemplary act of social responsibility.

Subsequently, the Chief Minister honoured family members of freedom fighters, signifying the importance of remembering the sacrifices made for independence. In addition, he introduced a new song titled ‘Wo Ruka Nahi,’ marking a cultural facet of the Independence Day celebrations. This initiative adds to the engagement of citizens in commemorating national heritage.

Cultural Recognition During Independence Day Celebrations

As part of the celebrations, CM Sukhu presented awards to participants of the Independence Day parade and cultural programmes, recognising their enthusiastic involvement.
