The Qaumi Insaf Morcha’s protest march in Punjab aimed at advocating for the release of Sikh prisoners faced a severe police response on Saturday. Prior to the march, a video surfaced showing Jagtar Singh Hawara, a jailed Sikh prisoner, appealing for the protest to remain peaceful. In the footage, Hawara is seen urging Sikh youth to volunteer for the Morcha and ensure that the demonstration proceeds without incident. He cautioned the community to stay vigilant against potential disruptions.

Hawara, serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has faced scrutiny regarding his parole. The Punjab Jail Department recently forwarded a parole case for Hawara to Tihar authorities with an unfavourable recommendation, highlighting 25 criminal cases against him and adverse police reports.
