UP Police Constable Exam Causes Travel Disruption

The CSR Journal Magazine

The conclusion of the UP Police Constable Exam 2026 led to extensive chaos at railway stations throughout Uttar Pradesh. Following the examination, a significant number of candidates flooded transportation hubs as they sought to return to various districts, including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra, and Jaunpur. This spike in passenger numbers resulted in severe congestion on train platforms and within the trains themselves, prompting immediate action from railway authorities.

Many aspirants were observed waiting for several hours at the stations, with some laying out bedsheets and plastic coverings on the platforms to rest while waiting to board their respective trains.

In Gorakhpur, which served as a major examination venue, numerous candidates opted to spend the night at the railway station prior to their exams. A significant number queued at charging points to recharge their mobile devices, while others dealt with high temperatures as they awaited their train journeys or exam sessions.

Concerns Among Candidates

The examination period attracted over 1.16 lakh candidates, who were anticipated to participate in the recruitment process over three days and in two shifts. Amidst the throngs of people, several candidates expressed their concerns regarding their families’ sacrifices and the potential for another examination paper leak. One candidate highlighted the struggles of their farmer father in supporting their education and training, stating their only desire was to ensure the examination paper would remain secure.

Another aspirant emphasised the importance of the exam for their family, stating that mishaps would bring uncertainty and stress regarding their future. These sentiments were echoed by many in the crowd, illustrating the high stakes associated with the examination.

Railway Police Force Inspector General Satya Prakash confirmed that measures were being implemented to facilitate the movement of candidates. He noted that railway authorities, law enforcement, and civil administration are collaborating closely to manage the increasing crowds efficiently.

Political Responses to Travel Issues

The surge in passenger numbers also ignited political debates, with the Congress party criticising the Uttar Pradesh government for its inadequate arrangements. They accused the ruling BJP government of failing to effectively manage the transportation needs of candidates despite claims of providing special train services for the recruitment examination.

In their social media communications, the Congress party pointed out discrepancies between government assurances of special train provisions and the overwhelming reality faced by candidates, many of whom were obliged to enter train compartments through windows due to the sheer volume of people.

Further criticisms were directed towards the preparedness of the government, with assertions that promises made by the BJP were unfounded. The political discourse intensified as the situation at railway stations continued to develop, further complicating the logistics of travel for candidates attending the examinations.

In response to these challenges, additional personnel were deployed at railway stations to manage the overwhelming crowds, and special trains were arranged to assist candidates as the examination period progressed.
