Over 6.9 Lakh Candidates Absent For UP Police Constable Exam; Nine Arrested For Fraud

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Examination recently concluded, showcasing significant participation rates despite a notable number of absentees. The examination, aimed at filling 32,679 constable positions, registered 2,886,798 candidates. However, only 2,192,236 candidates attended the exam, marking an attendance rate of 75.94 per cent.

A total of 694,562 candidates, representing approximately 24 per cent of those registered, did not appear for the examination. This absentee figure underlines a substantial departure from those who completed the registration process. The test was conducted across 1,183 centres in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the scale of this recruitment initiative.

Authorities have expressed concern over the high rate of non-attendance, which could indicate various social and logistical issues affecting candidates. While the exam process proceeded largely without incident, the implications of such a vast number of absentees warrant scrutiny.

Fraudulent Practices Addressed by Authorities

Although the examination was conducted with relative calm, the Uttar Pradesh Police remained vigilant against fraudulent activities. Over the three-day period, officials filed 12 FIRs across the state, leading to the arrest of nine individuals accused of cheating and impersonation. These individuals allegedly sought to take the examination on behalf of others using forged documentation.

Incidents of fraud were reported in cities including Noida, Aligarh, and Kanpur. The arrests stemmed from careful monitoring and intelligence work by law enforcement, who were on alert for any signs of cheating. The apprehension of these alleged offenders illustrates the ongoing battle against examination fraud in the state’s recruitment processes.

The authorities are committed to maintaining the integrity of the recruitment exercise, with investigations ongoing into the modus operandi of these impersonators. The arrests serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by officials in ensuring a fair examination environment.

Monitoring Misinformation Surrounding the Examination

In addition to addressing instances of cheating, officials also took steps to counter the spread of misinformation regarding the examination. In Lucknow, six FIRs were lodged at the Hussainganj police station against individuals accused of disseminating false information via social media and YouTube channels.

By implementing rigorous monitoring strategies, police were able to identify and respond to suspicious online content that could misguide candidates. Authorities emphasised the importance of accuracy in communicating information, as misinformation could significantly impact the overall recruitment process.

With the examination now concluded, the focus will shift to the evaluation of results and the subsequent phases of recruitment. Thousands of candidates await their performance outcomes, and the authorities aim to ensure a smooth transition into the next steps of the hiring process for roles within the Uttar Pradesh Police force.
