The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 21, during the National Forestry Dialogue held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath underscored the critical role of forests in achieving ecological balance. His remarks came as part of the celebrations for International Forest Day. The Chief Minister urged attendees to recognize the ancient wisdom inherent in Indian culture, particularly from the Vedic period, regarding the relationship between humans and nature.

Consequences of Environmental Disruption Discussed

In his address, Yogi Adityanath remarked on the repercussions that arise from disturbing the natural order. He stated that humanity has long faced the fallout from environmental neglect. The Chief Minister referred to contemporary issues such as global warming and cooling, suggesting that they serve as warnings for society. He called for a greater understanding of how interconnected natural resources are, emphasizing the necessity of preserving these resources for future generations.

Metaphors of Nature’s Interconnections Presented

Yogi Adityanath articulated the analogy that underscores the significance of natural elements. He stated that “a stepwell equals ten wells, and ten stepwells are equal to a pond. Ten ponds equal one son, and ten sons are equal to a tree.” This analogy highlights the tree’s paramount role in maintaining the ecosystem and reinforces the idea that forests are foundational to life itself. According to him, these natural resources are essential for sustaining ecological balance.

Call to Action for Environmental Respect

The Chief Minister drew attention to the intrinsic link between forests, water, air, and life. He specified that the vitality of life is intimately tied to these environmental components, stating that “if there is forest, there is water; if there is water and forest, there is air; and if there is air, there is life.” By making this connection, he reinforced the notion that human existence cannot be separated from the health of the environment.

Human Responsibility Towards Nature Stressed

Adityanath elaborated on the moral obligation that humans have towards the environment, reflecting on India’s traditional values. He stated, “The earth is our mother, we are all its sons. What is the responsibility of every son towards his mother? That he should not play with his mother in any way, but respect and protect her.” This statement served as a reminder of the ethical duty to safeguard natural resources.

Reflection on Individual Environmental Actions Encouraged

The Chief Minister urged citizens to introspect and evaluate their contributions to environmental conservation. He emphasized that recognizing where efforts may have faltered is crucial in the collective initiative to protect forests and natural resources. According to him, such actions are vital in ensuring both the preservation of life and the maintenance of nature’s balance.
