Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reported that 156 crore devotees and tourists visited the state in 2025, illustrating the connection between faith and economic growth. Speaking during the Panchayat Aaj Tak event in Mathura, he emphasised how the state’s rich religious heritage has created abundant opportunities for tourism and economic development. Specifically, he noted that 11 crore visitors were recorded in the Braj region alone last year.

Yogi outlined that this substantial footfall marks a transformative shift in how faith can be integrated with economic activity, providing unique experiences for both the country and the world. He asserted that such changes stem from a proactive approach, encouraging stakeholders to face challenges head-on and to find solutions, thereby setting new standards for success.

The Chief Minister further elaborated on the significance of various festivals and pilgrimages in the Braj region, such as Krishna Janmashtami in Mathura-Vrindavan, Holi in Barsana, and the numerous Parikramas. He asserted that these gatherings underscore the region’s immense potential for tourism-led economic initiative.

UP’s Competitive Advantages and Youth Empowerment

Yogi Adityanath stated that Uttar Pradesh possesses numerous advantages that position it strongly for future growth. These include a large young population, fertile agricultural land, a rich cultural history, notable religious sites, and a vast consumer market. He posited that the state’s large demographic should be seen as a “demographic dividend” conducive to development rather than a challenge.

He highlighted the importance of connecting the potential of the youth with skill development, employment opportunities, and the startup ecosystem. Yogi insisted that leveraging the strengths of Uttar Pradesh’s youth could significantly contribute to the state’s economic progress.

The Chief Minister also drew attention to the government’s significant investments in tourism infrastructure and the introduction of 36 sector-specific policies aimed at facilitating investment in the state. He referenced the approval of a five-star hotel in the Braj region as an example of progress made under his administration, noting that proposals previously stalled had been expedited.

Infrastructure Development and Historical Context

Yogi Adityanath described the development of infrastructure around religious sites as an essential strategy to turn Uttar Pradesh’s cultural assets into economic opportunities. He contrasted the current state of security and public order with earlier periods, notably recalling the violence that occurred at Jawahar Bagh in June 2016, when 29 lives were lost, creating an atmosphere of unrest.

He expressed that the transformation of the region has been pivotal in fostering an environment where a significant influx of devotees and tourists is welcomed. Improvements in infrastructure and public safety have made the area more conducive to religious tourism, further integrating it into the broader economy.

Yogi concluded that these developments indicate a marked change in the region’s landscape, demonstrating that faith, infrastructure, and economic progress can indeed coexist and stimulate growth in Uttar Pradesh.
