Hanuman Ansh Director Indicates Bollywood’s Lack of Support Prior to Film’s Success

The CSR Journal Magazine

Hanuman Ansh has emerged as an unexpected success at the box office, particularly notable given its slow initial performance. In its fourth week, the film has begun to surpass regional releases such as Kannada actor Yash’s Toxic. The movie’s rise has initiated fresh discussions, particularly following comments by director Vishal Chaturvedi regarding the industry’s lack of support before its launch.

Chaturvedi stated in a recent podcast that audience engagement and positive reviews were crucial to the film’s growing popularity, even as cinema operators reduced its screening times in favour of bigger titles. He noted that the number of shows dwindled significantly from two hundred and fifty to just twenty-five, as exhibitors prioritised more commercially viable projects.

Despite the decline in showings, the film’s momentum has continued to build, aided by word of mouth from viewers. Chaturvedi pointed out that many industry figures called to congratulate him only after the film began to attract attention.

Industry Reactions and Support

When asked if Bollywood had extended any support to the film prior to its release, Chaturvedi dismissed the notion with laughter. He mentioned that he had received congratulatory calls after the film started to perform well, including one from director Madhur Bhandarkar, although he clarified that he had not sought assistance from him.

Chaturvedi refrained from naming other industry members who contacted him, stating that he had previously sought their support without receiving it. He expressed his frustration with the industry’s mindset, suggesting that many individuals are unclear about what will succeed and often discourage creative pursuits.

He classified industry personnel into two categories: those who are genuinely passionate about filmmaking and those who lack commitment, viewing the profession merely as a possible venture. This division illustrates the challenges faced by emerging filmmakers seeking recognition and backing in a competitive environment.

Film’s Synopsis and Critical Acclaim

Hanuman Ansh, which is directed and written by Vishal Chaturvedi, draws inspiration from the life of Neem Karoli Baba, widely known as Maharaj ji. The official synopsis presents the story of a grieving boy who searches for God to reunite with his deceased mother. Through this journey, he discovers how to serve humanity by performing miracles infused with love, kindness, and blessings, ultimately embodying the essence of Hanuman Ansh.

After a modest opening, where it reported earnings of Rs 10 lakh on its first day, the film witnessed considerable growth in its third week as audiences responded favourably. To date, Hanuman Ansh has reportedly amassed Rs 72.88 crore in India, enticing producers to announce a sequel due to its successful trajectory.

Industry figures like Madhur Bhandarkar have praised the film for its artistic quality after viewing it in theatres, with Bhandarkar describing it as “pure cinematic magic.” Furthermore, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has encouraged audiences to experience it, labelling it a “satsang” and recommending it as an alternative to conventional therapy.
