Two Arrested in Noida for Alleged Terror Plot Linked to Pakistani Spy Agency

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended two individuals, Tushar Chauhan, also known as Hizbullah Khan, and Sameer Khan, in Noida on Thursday. This action is part of a significant initiative aimed at countering terrorist activities within the state. The suspects are reported to have connections to the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the intelligence agency of Pakistan, and were allegedly in association with notorious gangsters from Pakistan.

Initial investigations indicate that the duo intended to establish a sleeper cell to facilitate targeted killings of prominent individuals within the region. The operation reportedly aimed to radicalise Indian youth to further their agenda. It has emerged that Chauhan made contact with one of the Pakistani gangsters, Shahzad Bhatti, via Instagram, where he allegedly received offers to carry out these assassinations in exchange for a sum of Rs 3 lakh, using firearms such as hand grenades and pistols.

Meanwhile, Sameer Khan had purportedly been assigned the task of propagating the ideology of the banned terrorist organisation Tehrik-e-Taliban Hindustan (TTH) by marking the group’s name in public spaces. Over several months, both suspects are alleged to have issued death threats to various individuals, which included the involvement of their Pakistani handlers during these intimidating phone calls.

Recovery of Weapons and Legal Action

In the course of the operation, officers from the ATS discovered a pistol, five live cartridges, and a knife in the possession of the suspects. Following this, they filed a case at the ATS police station in Lucknow, applying the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The legal implications of these findings suggest that the authorities are treating this case with utmost seriousness.

Both Chauhan and Khan’s locations have been identified, with Chauhan residing in Baghpat and Sameer Khan based in Seemapuri in Old Delhi. Their connections to international elements raise concerns about the broader implications of radicalisation and links to terrorism that extend beyond Indian borders.

The investigation’s complexities necessitated a police custody remand for further interrogation. During this period, officials aim to uncover additional members of the alleged network and gain insights into their operations. This action is part of a broader strategy to dismantle terrorist plots before they materialise into actual threats.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps

Authorities have confirmed that the inquiry into the affiliations and intents of the arrested men is actively progressing. They are focused on identifying others who may be involved in the terror plot and any potential connections to organised crime or extremist groups. Coordination with national security agencies is expected to enhance the clarity and efficiency of the investigation.

The situation remains under close observation, as law enforcement agencies strive to mitigate any threats linked to this case. The collaboration and information-sharing between different police units and intelligence agencies are believed to be pivotal in effectively addressing the challenges posed by domestic and international terrorism.

The arrests highlight the increasing vigilance by Indian security forces in combating terrorism and related criminal activities. Continued efforts to dismantle these networks will be vital to ensure public safety and maintain order within society, as investigators work diligently to prevent further incidents.
