Maharashtra ATS Investigates 102 Individuals Linked to Pakistani Gangster

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is conducting a comprehensive investigation into individuals suspected to have connections with Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti. This operation aims to uncover the methods by which Bhatti reportedly uses social media to recruit Indian youth for activities deemed anti-national. As part of this effort, 58 teams from 14 ATS units are deployed across Maharashtra to gather information and assess the current involvement of these individuals with Bhatti.

Suspected Activities and Recruitment Methods

According to reports from the ATS, initial findings suggest that Bhatti and his associates, which include individuals such as Abid Jat alias Abid Chhal, Ajmal Gujar, Hammad Memon, Rana Hunain, and Ashraf Bashir Alam, have been making concerted efforts to extend their influence within India. They allegedly employ a multifaceted approach that includes online outreach, propaganda, and financial incentives aimed at attracting susceptible youth. The ATS has identified that these individuals leverage popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and WhatsApp to establish connections with young people in India.

The investigation further reveals that specific tactics are utilised to target vulnerable groups, particularly unemployed and economically disadvantaged youths. The gang reportedly makes enticing offers of money for easy tasks, effectively pulling these individuals into potentially dangerous activities that pose a risk to national security. Furthermore, authorities are examining claims that the network seeks to create local sleeper cells capable of undertaking tasks such as gathering sensitive information, facilitating drug trafficking, and enabling the movement of illegal arms.

Public Advisory Issued by ATS

Parents are encouraged to closely monitor their children’s online activities and internet usage. The ATS has recommended that families remain alert to any sudden changes in behaviour or suspicious interactions online. Immediate reporting of any concerns to the appropriate authorities has also been advised in order to help mitigate risks associated with the ongoing recruitment efforts.

Moreover, the ATS has called on citizens to refrain from sharing or circulating any content that may disrupt social harmony, public order, or national unity. By reiterating its commitment to maintaining peace and security, the Maharashtra Police and the ATS have asserted that stringent measures will be taken against anyone found involved in anti-national activities.
