TVK Chief Vijay Promises Free Electricity and Bus Travel for Women Ahead of Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

TVK leader Vijay has announced a series of welfare initiatives as part of his campaign ahead of the Tamil Nadu Elections set for April 23, 2026. During a recent address to supporters in Chennai, he stated that his government would implement 200 units of free electricity for households and provide free bus travel for women. These measures are positioned as a means to improve the quality of life for citizens, particularly focusing on women’s empowerment.

Additionally, Vijay expressed plans to introduce special legislation aimed at enhancing women’s safety and combating drug-related issues in the state. He emphasised that these initiatives would be implemented immediately following the formation of his government, indicating a strong commitment to welfare policies.

Vijay’s address was marked by a strong critique of the current government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin. He alleged that many of Stalin’s previous election promises had not been realised and pointed out the rise in various taxes, including those on water, housing, and waste management.

Political Enemies Identified by Vijay

In his speech, Vijay labelled the DMK as his “political enemy” and the BJP as his “policy enemy.” He called for voters to trust him completely, asserting, “You can trust your Vijay 100 per cent.” He maintained his party’s position against the DMK and stressed that his stance had not wavered.

Further targeting Chief Minister Stalin, Vijay commented on Tamil Nadu’s financial state, claiming it is burdened with a debt of Rs 5,000 lakh crore. He expressed concern over unfulfilled commitments related to educational loans and reiterated his stance that the current government has failed to manage the state’s economy responsibly.

Vijay accused the DMK of political misgovernance, suggesting a clandestine understanding between the DMK and the BJP. He stated that the public deserves equality across all religions and vowed to support minority communities, reaffirming his commitment to fairness.

Appeal to Voters and Call for Change

Vijay confidently predicted that the DMK would face defeat in the upcoming elections. He urged voters to choose the Whistle symbol associated with his party and to rally against the current administration, which he described as ineffective.

He appealed to citizens to take an active role in the electoral process, even encouraging those living abroad to return and vote. Vijay also called for a significant political shift, comparing the necessity of change to the act of discarding old items during festival celebrations.

The TVK leader further addressed his political opponents, particularly Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK, and questioned his ability to campaign effectively across the state. Vijay maintained that his party represents a fresh alternative for voters seeking positive governance.

Clarifications on Recent Controversies

Amidst ongoing political tensions, Vijay offered his insights regarding a recent incident in Karur, where he was allegedly blamed for a stampede due to his late arrival. He claimed to have reached the location on time and highlighted the accountability of the police regarding his timely arrival.

He questioned why Chief Minister Stalin should redirect a loyalist candidate to contest elsewhere instead of in Karur if there was no fear of his party’s influence. Vijay’s campaign, while robust in proposing welfare measures, also reflects a deeper narrative of political rivalry among the state’s leading parties.

The forthcoming elections are anticipated to see a competitive atmosphere, primarily between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the AIADMK, BJP, and PMK. The TVK, under Vijay’s leadership, aims to challenge this traditional two-party dynamic and present itself as a viable alternative. The counting of votes is set for May 4, 2026.
