US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held talks at the White House on Tuesday, with both sides describing the meeting as positive and productive. The discussions focused on Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional security, with Netanyahu calling the meeting one of the strongest engagements he has had with a US president.

The meeting took place during Netanyahu’s visit to Washington and followed Trump’s separate meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier in the day.

White House Hails Productive Discussions

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump’s meetings with Netanyahu and Zelenskyy were both constructive.

“President Trump has concluded his meetings in the Oval Office with President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Both meetings were positive and productive!” she wrote in a post on X.

Netanyahu’s office also released photographs from the Oval Office meeting, showing the two leaders seated together. Additional images featured US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter and Israel’s National Security Adviser Shmuel Ben Ezra.

Netanyahu Highlights Shared Security Goals

In a video message shared after the meeting, Netanyahu said the discussions reflected close coordination between the United States and Israel on key security issues.

He said both leaders were united in their objective of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and discussed ways to strengthen Israel’s security.

“It was a conversation with full partnership, with mutual support, and with an understanding of the shared goal to ensure that Iran will not have nuclear weapons, as well as other goals,” Netanyahu said, describing it as “one of the best conversations I have ever had with a President of the United States, our friend Donald Trump.”

He added that the talks enabled both governments and their national security teams to coordinate closely on matters of strategic importance.

Trump Says US Closely Monitoring Iran

Speaking to Fox News, Trump dismissed reports suggesting Netanyahu had travelled to share intelligence about Iran’s efforts to rebuild its nuclear programme, saying the United States was already closely monitoring developments.

“I don’t need Bibi to tell me that. Bibi is telling me that because he wants me to stay involved,” Trump said, adding that he was already aware of the situation.

Referring to the Pickaxe Mountain site, which has been linked to Iran’s nuclear activities, Trump said the United States was fully informed about developments there.

“We took out their nuclear sites, and we’ll have to take out Pickaxe Mountain if they don’t make a deal,” he said.

Meeting Comes Amid Renewed Tensions

The meeting comes amid renewed tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran following the collapse of a ceasefire established under a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.

Israel has consistently opposed the agreement, while military operations involving the region have further complicated diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions.
