Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles towards US military forces in the Middle East on Tuesday, in what the US Central Command (CENTCOM) described as an “attempted surprise attack”. The US military said all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted and no impact was reported.

The attack marks Iran’s first reported strike on a US military base in the region since US President Donald Trump suspended military operations against Tehran last week to allow space for diplomatic efforts.

US Says All Missiles Were Intercepted

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said the missiles were launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at around 5:45 pm ET.

“At 5:45 p.m. ET today, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iran in an attempted surprise attack on U.S. forces based in the Middle East. All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said.

The command added that US forces remain “vigilant and at a high state of readiness” following the attack.

According to Axios, the missiles were fired towards a US military base in Jordan.

Gulf Nations Condemn Attack

The missile strike prompted swift reactions from Gulf countries, with Kuwait and Qatar condemning the attack and expressing support for Jordan.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the strikes as a flagrant violation of Jordan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying they posed a direct threat to regional peace and stability.

The ministry also reaffirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with Jordan and its support for all measures taken to safeguard the country’s security and protect its people.

Qatar issued a similar statement, condemning what it described as repeated attacks targeting Jordanian territory and reiterating its backing for the country’s efforts to preserve its sovereignty and stability.

Attack Follows Trump-Netanyahu Meeting

The missile launch came just hours after US President Donald Trump hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House for talks focused largely on Iran and regional security.

Earlier in the day, Trump warned that the United States could resume military action against Iran if Tehran failed to reach an agreement with Washington.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said the US could target key infrastructure if negotiations collapsed.

“If they don’t make a deal, then I go back, and I finish the job. But that’s going to take them forever to rebuild. Already, it’ll take them many years to ever rebuild,” he said.
