Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav recently directed officials to arrange for food and prasadi at 15 to 20 kilometre intervals along the routes designated for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, coinciding with the holy month of Shravan. This initiative aims to ensure that devotees have access to necessary sustenance while undertaking their pilgrimage.

During a review meeting held on July 28, at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of providing adequate food facilities for pilgrims. He highlighted the need for establishing these provisions in collaboration with local religious organisations and community members to foster a welcoming environment. This collaborative approach is expected to enhance the overall experience of those participating in the yatra.

In addition to food arrangements, Yadav instructed officials to set up dedicated pilgrim facilitation centres along the yatra route. These centres will serve as points where devotees can receive assistance and rest during their journey.

Enhancements to Tourism Infrastructure

The meeting also focused on the enhancement of tourism infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh. The Chief Minister urged the Tourism Department to collaborate closely with the Forest and Culture Departments to expand tourism activities. He mentioned the promotion of homestays in rural and forest areas, an initiative that aims to create new employment opportunities for local populations.

Yadav stressed the importance of timely approvals for tourism-related projects and investments. He insisted that all necessary permissions be granted efficiently, underscoring the need for a transparent mechanism to facilitate investment in the tourism sector. This focus on revamping the approval process is viewed as crucial for attracting more investors and improving the state’s tourism profile.

As part of this effort, the Chief Minister directed that wayside amenity centres be developed along national and state highways, as well as newly constructed corridors. These centres are to be equipped with essential amenities such as hospitals, trauma centres, petrol pumps, and electric vehicle charging stations to ensure the safety and comfort of travellers.

Promotion of Religious Tourism and Cultural Events

In his address, Chief Minister Yadav recognised the significance of religious tourism for the state’s economy. He called for improvements in accessibility and amenities at major pilgrimage sites to attract more visitors. This includes enhancing transportation links and providing better facilities to enrich the spiritual journeys of devotees.

He also highlighted the cultural importance of the Bhagoria Festival, a unique tribal celebration in Madhya Pradesh. The Chief Minister directed officials to announce the dates for the next festival well in advance, complemented by a nationwide promotional campaign. This proactive approach is intended to increase participation and awareness of the festival, contributing to the vibrancy of the region’s cultural heritage.

Through these comprehensive directives, the Chief Minister aims to bolster both religious tourism and local economies, ensuring that the needs of pilgrims and tourists are met efficiently during significant religious events like the Kanwar Yatra and the Bhagoria Festival.
