TMC Leader Kirti Azad Rejects Allegations of Rebel MPs Supporting NDA

The CSR Journal Magazine

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Kirti Azad has categorically dismissed allegations that a group of twenty Trinamool Congress Members of Parliament (MPs) intends to support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He labelled the claims as “fake and fabricated” and suggested they were orchestrated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Azad expressed his views on a social media platform, where he stated that this alleged attempt to create discord within the party has proven unsuccessful. He further mentioned that several MPs listed in the claims have already denied signing any documents that would support such a move. He emphasised that “Operation Lotus” has not succeeded, implying that the BJP’s efforts to entice TMC MPs have failed.

A viral graphic surfaced online, asserting that these MPs had formed a separate faction within the TMC to back the NDA. The list purportedly features prominent TMC figures, including Kakoli Dastidar, Satabdi Roy, and Sudip Bandyopadhyay, among others. However, the authenticity of this claim has not been confirmed by any of the MPs mentioned or by the TMC leadership.

No Confirmation from TMC Leadership

Despite the claims circulating on social media, there has been a notable absence of any official confirmation from the TMC or the individuals allegedly involved. Azad accused the BJP of spreading misinformation regarding internal party dynamics, particularly in light of dissent and conflicting opinions within the TMC. He characterised this ongoing narrative as “fake and fabricated,” dismissing it as a tactic to destabilise the party.

On June 8, Azad raised concerns about alleged coercive strategies employed by the BJP, suggesting that some TMC members are being subjected to blackmail and threats involving law enforcement agencies. He asserted that the purported rebel faction does not consist of twenty members and referred to the entire situation as a “prestige issue” for Amit Shah, the Home Minister.

Azad vehemently stated, “The BJP is spreading lies. In the meanwhile, blackmailing, coaxing, trying to bribe, threaten, with ED, CBI and with dire consequences with the police,” reinforcing his position against the allegations made by the BJP. These assertions highlight the ongoing tension between the TMC and the BJP, particularly following recent political developments.

Political Context and Reactions

The political atmosphere in Kolkata has been increasingly charged, as parties engage in a war of narratives regarding the internal affairs of their counterparts. The BJP’s claims, if they were true, could significantly impact the balance of power in West Bengal, where the TMC has been predominantly influential under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.

As political tensions mount, the TMC’s leaders, including Azad, are likely to continue refuting these claims vigorously. They maintain that their party remains united despite allegations, while the BJP appears determined to exploit any signs of internal strife to strengthen its position.

The ongoing discourse surrounding loyalty and support among MPs adds to the complexities of Indian politics, especially in an environment where party affiliations can shift rapidly. Observers are keenly monitoring the situation as further developments may arise in the coming days.
