Three-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped by 57-Year-Old Staff Member in Delhi School

The CSR Journal Magazine

A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 57-year-old staff member at a private school located in Janakpuri, Delhi. The incident reportedly occurred on April 30, 2026, which was the second day following the child’s admission to the institution. The girl’s mother lodged a complaint after her daughter returned home in visible pain, which led her to question the child about the cause.

Upon inquiry, the young girl allegedly disclosed that she was taken to a secluded area within the school premises by the caretaker and assaulted. Following this revelation, the mother promptly reported the matter to the authorities, leading to a police investigation initiated on May 1.

Based on the complaint, the police invoked relevant legal provisions, including Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Officials confirmed that the accused was positively identified by the girl, prompting his arrest on the same day.

Legal Developments and Arrest

After his arrest, the accused was presented before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. However, on May 7, 2026, he was reportedly granted bail despite opposition from the prosecution. This decision sparked outrage, as it came in the wake of serious allegations against the caretaker concerning the assault on a minor.

Following the bail order, the police indicated that they are reviewing CCTV footage from the school to gather further evidence. The development has created concerns about the administration of justice in cases involving crimes against children.

Meanwhile, the girl’s mother expressed dissatisfaction with the initial police response, alleging that appropriate action was not taken after her report. She also suggested that a school teacher might have been involved, claiming that he was interrogated as part of the police investigation.

Accusations of Police Inaction

The mother of the victim has alleged that she and her family experienced delays and intimidation at the police station during the inquiry. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj voiced concerns about the bail granted to the caretaker, echoing the mother’s claims of improper handling by law enforcement. He asserted that the child’s admission to nursery should not result in such a traumatic experience.

In response to these allegations, the police issued a statement defending their actions, asserting that they acted promptly following the medical examination of the child. The statement clarified that the accused was arrested on the same day the abuse was reported. Additionally, the police indicated that they followed legal procedures for evidence collection and maintained a thorough investigative process.

The police also rejected claims of harassment during the investigation, describing reports to that effect as false. They emphasised that both the complainant and the child were provided a sensitive environment throughout the inquiry, and their interactions were strictly for lawful purposes, given the nature of the case.

Future Actions and Investigation

The police confirmed that they are currently reviewing the detailed bail order and evaluating available legal options in light of the circumstances surrounding the case. The authorities remain committed to ensuring a thorough investigation, focusing on all aspects of the incident and any potential oversights in the case handling.

As the situation evolves, the safety and welfare of the child remain paramount while seeking justice through the appropriate legal channels. Community reactions and further developments in this troubling case are anticipated as it unfolds in the legal system.
