The Pink Saheli Smart Card, recently introduced for women in Delhi, is set to enhance the commuter experience by enabling free travel not only on DTC buses but also by functioning as a debit card. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has ensured that this card aligns with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, allowing its use across multiple platforms including malls, shops, the Delhi Metro, and Namo Bharat trains.

Digital Application Process for Card Issuance

Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh has stated that the application for the Pink Saheli Smart Card will be facilitated through a fully digital process. Women interested in obtaining the card must apply via the online portal belonging to DTC’s designated banking partner. Essential documents required include an Aadhaar card with a Delhi address, a passport-sized photograph, and additional personal information. A PAN card may also be necessary, depending on individual circumstances.

Following the completion of a Video KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process, the card will be dispatched directly to the applicant’s residence, streamlining the entire application experience.

There are two distinct variants of the Pink Saheli Smart Card available. The first variant is the Zero KYC Card, which can be obtained instantly via Aadhaar and OTP verification, primarily for free bus travel. The second variant, known as the Full KYC Card, provides banking services and can be used as a typical debit card.

How the Card Functions for Commuters

According to the Transport Department, women will need to tap the Pink Saheli Smart Card on the ticket machine when boarding DTC buses to receive a free travel ticket, consistent with existing procedures. For those who wish to use the card for transactions within the Delhi Metro, Namo Bharat trains, or at retail outlets, it is required that users first load money onto the card through their bank account or UPI services.

Further, it has been confirmed by DTC that from August 1, only valid Pink Saheli Smart Cards will allow women to access free travel on DTC buses. Women without a valid card will not qualify for the free travel provision. An awareness campaign has been initiated across buses and depots to inform the public about these changes.

Distinguishing Features of the Smart Cards for Different Users

The DTC has categorised the smart cards by colour, tailoring them to various passenger demographics. Pink cards are issued specifically for women, blue cards are designated for general passengers, while orange cards are intended for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. However, the rollout of the orange cards is still pending, according to official statements from the department.

This systematic approach aims to provide clear identification for different passenger groups while streamlining the experience across Delhi’s transportation network. As the implementation date approaches, the DTC emphasises the importance of compliance among women passengers with the new card system.
