Tamil star and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, Thalapathy Vijay, attended a wedding reception in Chennai along with actor Trisha Krishnan. In a viral video, the duo is seen attending the event together. This has drawn widespread attention because Vijay’s wife Sangeetha Sornalingam, has currently filed for divorce.
Trisha and Vijay’s viral video
Vijay and Trisha who have worked together for years in many films were seen in the viral video in traditional outfits. While actor-turned politician Vijay was seen holding a bouquet of flowers, Trisha was seen following him as the duo stepped outside the car. It was the wedding reception of producer Kalpathi Suresh and Meenakshi’s son. The Kalapathi family is a popular and well-established family, well-known in cinema circles.
Why are Vijay and Sangeetha getting divorced
After 27 years of marriage, Sangeetha Sornalingam filed for divorce on February 27. She filed the petition at Chengalpattu District Court. Sangeetha has applied for divorce on grounds of infidelity, mental cruelty, neglect, and desertion. In the petition, she alleged that her husband Vijay is involved in an extramarital relationship with a co-star. Sornalingam elaborated that her marital life involves “persistent mental cruelty, neglect and desertion.” She explained in the petition that the marriage has been “irretrievably broken down.” Since the matter is sensitive, she requested a closed-room discussion with the court to avoid “further humiliation and mental agony.” Sornalingam also claimed that she and her husband Vijay have been emotionally distant since 2021. Among other allegations, she blamed Vijay for “constructive desertion,” stating that she had been staying separately within the same home while Vijay maintained an open association with the co-star.
Sornalingam has even pointed out that her children Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha, are facing embarrassment due to the current situation and their father’s public appearances with the other woman. This isn’t the first time she has sought legal help, she previously sent Vijay many notices between August 2024 and February 2025, hoping to resolve the matter amicably. Vijay and Sangeetha tied the knot in 1998 in United Kingdom and then after in India 1999.
Actor Vijay’s son has followed him
After the divorce petition went viral, fans are curious whether Vijay’s son has unfollowed him. According to many users, Jason Sanjay has followed many actors on social media including Vijay Sethupathi, but not his father. One social media user wrote, “Decent young man, Jason Sanjay, proud Son Of Sangeetha ma’am.”
Many others stated that Jason never followed his father or his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Vijay’s son, Jason, is currently debuting in his directorial project, Sigma, which stars actor Sundeep Kishan.
