Tensions Escalate at Strongroom: Suvendu Adhikari Claims His Agent Kept Watch Over Mamata Banerjee

The CSR Journal Magazine

WB Assembly Election 2026: Following the conclusion of voting, the security of strongrooms has become a flashpoint for intense political conflict. Amidst reports of protests, clashes, and high-stakes standoffs outside various centers—including the protest at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra—BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari has added fuel to the fire with a new social media post.

The Strongroom Standoff

Late on a rainy night, West Bengal Chief Minister and Bhabanipur constituency candidate, Mamata Banerjee, arrived at the Sakhawat Memorial Government Girls’ High School, where the EVMs for her constituency are stored. While there were initial reports of friction regarding access, Banerjee was eventually permitted to enter the facility.

However, Suvendu Adhikari has since shared a photograph from inside the strongroom, claiming his election agent, Advocate Suryanil Das, was present specifically to monitor the Chief Minister. In the image shared by Adhikari, Banerjee is seen seated across from Das, whom the BJP leader has explicitly highlighted in the post.

Adhikari’s Allegations

In his caption accompanying the image, Adhikari wrote, “I want to reassure the people of the Bhabanipur constituency and all of West Bengal that the Trinamool Congress candidate and outgoing Chief Minister has been prevented from securing any undue advantage.”

Adhikari asserted that his agent kept a vigilant watch to ensure the electoral process remained untainted. “No matter how hard she tried, she could not engage in any irregular activity. As long as she remained on the strongroom premises, my election agent, Advocate Suryanil Das, was personally present to keep her under strict surveillance, ensuring she could not resort to any dishonest means,” he added.

Political Backlash

The post has triggered a sharp response from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Criticizing the Election Commission’s handling of the situation, TMC State Vice-President Jay Prakash Majumdar stated, “Have you ever seen an Election Commission like this? They are acting solely for the BJP. Even in newly established democratic nations, the election commissions are more neutral than this. The actions of the Election Commission of India today have brought shame upon the country globally.”
