Tejashwi Yadav Questions Nishant Kumar’s Qualifications

The CSR Journal Magazine

On June 11, 2026, RJD national president Tejashwi Yadav openly ridiculed the educational achievements of Health Minister Nishant Kumar. He suggested that the Bihar Education Minister is capable of turning Kumar into an engineer, implying that the current educational oversight in the state could reshape qualifications.

Kumar, who was recently elected to the Legislative Council, disclosed in his affidavit that he completed five out of eight semesters at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, up to the year 2001. Despite this admission, there have been claims that he holds an engineering degree, drawing parallels to his father, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has also faced scrutiny regarding educational credentials.

Yadav’s remarks displayed a layer of sarcasm as he expressed confidence in the Bihar Education Minister’s capacity to bestow engineering qualifications upon the JD(U) leader. His statement highlighted the ongoing discussions surrounding the legitimacy of educational certifications in Bihar, particularly in the context of political figures.

Allegations Regarding Other Leaders’ Qualifications

In addition to his comments about Kumar, Yadav made assertions about Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s educational background, claiming that the CM lacks any formal degree altogether. He further stated that there is widespread confusion regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s qualifications, alluding to concerns regarding transparency and authenticity in political educational claims.

“I have at least been honest about my educational background,” Yadav stated. “I disclosed my qualifications. Whether it is the Chief Minister of Bihar or the Prime Minister of the nation, both have allegedly concealed their true degrees and put forth misleading information.” This statement underscores the competitive political landscape in Bihar, where educational credentials hold significant sway over public perception.

Yadav has previously indicated that his highest educational qualification is a Class 8 pass, as he left formal education after Class 9 to pursue a career in professional cricket. His somewhat humble academic background contrasts sharply with the claims and accusations directed at other political figures concerning their educational credentials.

Ongoing Debate on Educational Credentials in Politics

The discussions around educational qualifications within Bihar’s political arena reflect broader concerns regarding transparency and integrity among public officials. As scrutiny increases over the credentials of elected representatives, political parties are under pressure to address these issues. The public’s demand for accountability may lead to greater emphasis on qualifications in future political campaigns.

Critics argue that educational qualifications should be a priority when assessing the fitness of political leaders for their roles. The enhanced focus on this aspect may reshape candidate selection processes in future elections, making it essential for politicians to provide accurate and verifiable information about their educational history.

As this discourse continues, it remains crucial for the electorate to remain informed and engaged in conversations surrounding the qualifications of their leaders. The implications of such discussions could significantly impact the political landscape in Bihar and beyond.
