Teenager Dies After Falling from Zip Line in Agra, Operator Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life after falling approximately 45 feet from a zip line at Agra Chowpati in the Tajganj region on Sunday. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the safety protocols at this adventure facility. The victim, identified as Kunal Agarwal, was visiting Agra from Firozabad with his family, primarily to see the Taj Mahal.

Reports indicate that Kunal’s father, Pankaj Agarwal, a bangle trader, took the family to Agra Chowpati after the children expressed interest in engaging in adventure activities available there. Kunal was enthusiastic about trying out the zip line, which was equipped with a nearly 120-metre-long cable and stood about 45 feet high.

Initial accounts suggest that the pulley lock on the zip line malfunctioned while Kunal was in motion, resulting in his sudden fall to the ground. Bystanders reported a state of panic as the event unfolded, and Kunal’s parents, upon realising the situation, rushed to his aid. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries before medical assistance could reach him.

Response from Authorities

Following the incident, law enforcement promptly halted all zip line activities in the area. The manager of Agra Chowpati and the zip line operator were taken into custody for questioning related to the occurrence. A formal complaint filed by the family has led police to register a case and initiate legal proceedings.

The Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police, Himanshu Gaurav, underscored the necessity for adventure activities to adhere to strict safety standards. Preliminary investigations have unveiled serious concerns regarding the condition of the safety equipment and the overall management of safety measures at the facility.

Agra Chowpati was established to enhance tourism in the region by providing visitors with local cuisine and thrilling adventure experiences. However, this unfortunate incident has placed both the facility and its operators under critical scrutiny regarding their compliance with safety regulations.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

The Agra Development Authority operates Agra Chowpati, while a private company, EOD Adventure Park (Vision Amusement Park Private Limited), manages the zip line’s operations. As a result of this incident, doubts have surfaced concerning whether regular safety inspections had been carried out and whether the safety equipment was adequately maintained.

Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar has acknowledged the severity of the situation, visiting the scene and instructing officials to carry out a thorough investigation. The police are currently examining all relevant aspects of the case, including potential negligence regarding the maintenance of safety standards for adventure activities at the facility.
