Tamil Nadu Police Arrest Two for Defrauding Over 500 Job Seekers of ₹7 Crore

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Tamil Nadu Police have apprehended two individuals in Coimbatore for allegedly duping more than 500 job seekers out of nearly ₹7 crore by offering false promises of overseas employment. The arrests follow numerous complaints from victims who were lured into the scheme under the guise of legitimate job opportunities abroad.

Operation of the Deceptive Firm

The accused reportedly operated a firm named Royal Training and Testing Centre, which conducted recruitment drives near Coimbatore Railway Station during April. During these interviews, applicants were informed they had been selected for overseas positions, leading them to submit their original passports along with payments for visa processing and other charges.

After amassing money and passports from the victims, the suspects allegedly cut off all communication and vacated their office space, effectively disappearing. This tactic left the job seekers unable to retrieve their documents or funds, prompting multiple complaints to be filed at the Race Course Police Station.

In response to the growing number of complaints, police initiated an investigation which resulted in the identification of the accused. The suspects were named as Deva Asirvatham, a 61-year-old retired police officer from Avarampalayam, and a 60-year-old man named Krishnan from Kuniyamuthur.

Progress of the Investigation

The investigation thus far has disclosed that the accused are believed to have defrauded approximately 500 individuals, accumulating an estimated ₹7 crore through their fraudulent scheme. Law enforcement is conducting further inquiries to ascertain if the suspects have been involved in similar fraudulent activities in other districts of Tamil Nadu or even in different states.

Authorities are also exploring the possibility of discovering a criminal background related to the suspects, which could potentially implicate them in additional cases beyond this incident. Police are urging any more victims or individuals with information related to this case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

As the situation evolves, the Tamil Nadu Police are committed to bringing all those involved to justice, while also working to recover funds for the victims. The ongoing inquiry is aimed at identifying preventive measures to halt such scams from recurring in the future, addressing a concern that has become increasingly prevalent in recent years.
