Surendra Pal Backs Ranveer Singh for ‘Shaktimaan’, Urges Mukesh Khanna to Reconsider

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent discussion, veteran actor Mukesh Khanna expressed his reservations regarding Ranveer Singh taking on the iconic role of Shaktimaan. However, Surendra Pal, Khanna’s co-star from Shaktimaan and Mahabharat, responded to these concerns by suggesting that Singh could indeed be a fitting choice for the character.

Pal addressed Khanna’s worries during an interview with the YouTube channel Siddharth Kannan Official. He acknowledged Khanna’s dedication to the character, stating that the portrayal of Shaktimaan involves a particular image and persona that should not be compromised. Nevertheless, Pal maintained that Ranveer Singh has the potential to embody the superhero effectively.

Pal’s Support For Ranveer Singh

Surendra Pal encouraged Mukesh Khanna to reconsider his stance regarding Singh’s casting. He pointed out that Khanna has deep emotional ties to the Shaktimaan character, treating it as his “own child.” Pal remarked on Khanna’s intensity, emphasising that he is likely to remain steadfast in his opinions due to his strong attachment to the role.

Pal further expressed his admiration for Singh, mentioning his appreciation for the actor after watching the series Dhurandhar. “Ranveer Singh is not a bad choice; I really like him,” said Pal, suggesting that Khanna should expand his view and think more openly about the casting decision.

It is noteworthy that both Khanna and Pal played significant roles in BR Chopra’s acclaimed television series Mahabharat, where Khanna portrayed Bhishma Pitamah and Pal took on the role of Dronacharya. Their shared history adds another layer of complexity to their discussions regarding casting choices in the Shaktimaan franchise.

Khanna’s Specific Requirements For The Role

In a previous interview with HT City, Khanna further elaborated on his vision for the character of Shaktimaan. He clarified that his reservations regarding casting do not stem from a disdain for Singh as a performer but rather from the belief that the actor’s image does not align with what he envisions for the superhero role.

Khanna remarked, “I do not want a very big actor or star for Shaktimaan. I want an image that has not been associated with Ranveer.” He explained that the character’s attributes are critical, stating that the portrayal should evoke a sense of power and positivity rather than negativity.

According to Khanna, the essence of Shaktimaan should be reflected in the actor’s eyes and overall demeanour. He did mention that he could envision Singh in a different role, such as the villain Kilvish, but firmly believes the face of Shaktimaan needs to embody a certain positivity. Despite these challenges, Khanna reassured fans that the film project is in the pipeline and announcements will follow soon.
