Six Tourists from Gujarat Killed After SUV Falls into Gorge in Himachal Pradesh

Six tourists from Gujarat were killed, and four others were critically injured when their SUV fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Monday. The incident reportedly occurred around 3 am, coinciding with a period of severe weather, which had been marked by heavy rainfall and stormy conditions since the previous night. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Innova and was carrying a total of ten people.

Upon impact, six individuals, comprising four men, two women, and a child, were pronounced dead at the site of the accident. The injured, which included two children, were immediately taken to the nearest health centre for urgent medical attention. Initial treatments were administered, and three of the injured were subsequently referred to Tanda Medical College for further care.

First responders, including local police teams, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident was reported. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, especially given the hazardous weather conditions at the time.

Identification of Victims and Injured Parties

The deceased victims have been identified as Lalitbhai Patnani and Mamtaben Lalitbhai Patnani, both residents of Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Other fatalities included Priyank Kanhaiyalal Bhopani, his wife Kajal, their child Diyansh, and the driver, Jaswant Kumar, aged 51, who resided in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.

Of the injured, Mayank Lalitbhai Patnani, aged 31, and Foramben Mayank Patnani, also aged 31, were taken to the health centre alongside three-year-old Jiansh Patnani and three-year-old Priyanshi Bhopani. The nature of their injuries has been described as critical, necessitating advanced medical intervention.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by the severe weather conditions in the region, which have been compounded by the continuous rainfall that began the previous day. Local authorities are aware of the potential risks of travelling during such adverse conditions.

In the aftermath of the accident, local authorities expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and injured parties. The police have stated that thorough inquiries will be conducted to understand the contributing factors behind the accident, especially as it relates to road safety protocols in inclement weather.
