Re-Polling recommended in 4 Diamond Harbour booths after phase 2 voting

With the conclusion of the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, attention has shifted to the possibility of re-polling in certain constituencies following allegations of irregularities.

The Returning Officer (RO) of the Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency has recommended fresh polling in four specific booths. Confirming the development, Election Observer Subrata Gupta stated that the recommendation was based on a preliminary scrutiny report.

Scrutiny underway by Commission

According to Gupta, the Election Commission of India is currently examining whether the recommendation arises from technical glitches or disturbances reported on polling day.

“The proposal has been made after an initial review of the reports received during the scrutiny process,” he said.

Concerns have also emerged from other parts of South 24 Parganas. Allegations of discrepancies in polling records have been raised in several booths across Falta and Magrahat West constituencies. Officials confirmed that detailed reports regarding these booths have already been sent to the Commission for further evaluation.

Final decision rests with EC

Gupta clarified that both the Returning Officer and the Election Observer can only submit reports and recommendations. The final decision on whether re-polling will be conducted lies solely with the Commission.

If the Commission determines that the polling process in the identified booths lacked transparency or was compromised, dates for re-polling could be announced in the coming days.
