Rajinikanth Clarifies Meeting With M. K. Stalin Was Personal, Not Political Amid Election Buzz

The CSR Journal Magazine

Veteran actor Rajinikanth has clarified the nature of his recent meeting with DMK chief MK Stalin in light of the latter’s defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election. In a press conference held at his residence in Chennai’s Poes Garden on Sunday, he stated that the meeting was misconstrued as a sign of disapproval regarding Vijay’s ascent as the new Chief Minister. Rajinikanth emphasised that he met Stalin as a friend and not in a political context.

During his address, Rajinikanth firmly asserted, “I am not jealous of anyone,” highlighting his lack of animosity towards the new political leadership, as he is not actively involved in politics. His comments come after Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, emerged as the single-largest party in the assembly election and formed a government with the support of smaller allies.

Criticism and Clarifications from Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth expressed concern over the criticisms directed at him following the election results, stating that he felt compelled to clarify his position to prevent any misconceptions from being accepted as truth. He remarked, “I am holding this press meeting because many criticisms are being made about me in connection with the election.” The actor indicated that silence could allow false narratives to flourish.

He conveyed his sadness over Stalin’s loss in the Kolathur constituency, where the former Chief Minister, who had previously won the seat three times, was defeated by TVK’s VS Babu by nearly 9,000 votes. Rajinikanth noted that his friendship with Stalin extends beyond the political sphere, underscoring the personal nature of their relationship.

Rajinikanth also indicated that he congratulated Vijay immediately after the election results confirmed his party’s victory. He acknowledged his surprise at Vijay becoming Chief Minister right after his initial attempt at a leadership role, remarking on the significance of such an achievement in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.

Praise for Vijay’s Political Journey

In discussing Vijay’s victory, Rajinikanth pointed out the substantial age gap between the two, noting that Vijay is 24 years younger. He commended Vijay for establishing himself as a prominent political figure, successfully challenging the two major Dravidian parties—DMK and AIADMK. Rajinikanth’s acknowledgement of Vijay’s achievement highlights his respect for the new leader’s dedication and efforts in the political arena.

Rajinikanth concluded his remarks by reaffirming his stance against jealousy and competition within the political framework, asserting his position as a neutral observer in the political changes occurring in Tamil Nadu. His statements aim to quell any speculations regarding his sentiments towards the election and its outcomes, showcasing a commitment to maintaining friendly relations with all political figures involved in the current landscape.

This clarification from the actor is significant in the context of Tamil Nadu’s evolving political dynamics, particularly as Vijay’s party embarks on a new governance journey amid longstanding political frameworks. Rajinikanth’s engagement in the dialogue highlights the interconnectedness of politics and personal relationships, emphasising the importance of transparency and communication in public life.
