Rajasthan’s Palace on Wheels to Run in May for First Time in 45 Years

Palace on Wheels, Rajasthan’s iconic luxury train, will operate for the first time after 45 years this May. Palace on Wheels is a famous heritage train and usually runs between September and April owing to extreme summer heat. For the first time, owing to the high demand of the luxury train, this special summer operation is starting. On May 20, the journey will start from Delhi Safdarjung railway station to different district of Rajasthan. This change in the schedule marks a rare change in the schedule, creating excitement among the travel enthusiasts.

First time in 45 years

India’s first luxury heritage train ‘Palace on Wheels’ was launched on January 26, 1982. This train is jointly operated by Indian Railways and the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC). Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway Amit Sudarshan said Palace on Wheels is operating in May for the first time due to “significant demand”. “Earlier, summer operation was avoided as summer temperatures in Rajasthan crosses 45 degrees Celsius at many places in Rajasthan.”

The luxury train covers 2,610 km, starting from Delhi Safdarjung station, it covers major districts like Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Marwar Junction and Phulera.

Specially designed to recreate royal experience while traveling. The luxury train features restaurant, spa facilities, among others. Every cabin has modern comforts like AC, attached bathrooms, Wi-Fi, lockers, and a breathtaking royal-touch interior. As per reports, one nationalised bank has booked the entire train for the special May journey.
