Nepal Tourism Board Denies Imposition of New Restrictions on Indian Tourists

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has stated that there are no new restrictions affecting Indian tourists visiting Nepal. In a recent statement, the NTB expressed its concern regarding misleading information that has been circulating in various media and online platforms concerning travel regulations for visitors from India.

The board specified that reports claiming the Nepalese government has introduced new requirements, such as mandatory identity cards for Indians crossing the border and limiting their stay to thirty days, are entirely unfounded. Furthermore, allegations regarding the confiscation of vehicles for overstaying are also described as baseless by the NTB.

NTB emphasised that there have been no changes to the established policies that govern the free movement of individuals between Nepal and India, asserting that the longstanding open-border arrangements continue to be in place without modification.

Strengthening Nepal-India Relations

The statement from the NTB highlighted the enduring historical ties between the two nations, encompassing people-to-people relations and cultural connections. The board noted that the longstanding cooperation in the tourism sector remains robust and unaffected by any purported travel regulations.

In a bid to improve the travel experience for tourists, the Government of Nepal has recently introduced a new online facilitation system. This initiative is designed to ease the entry process for Indian tourists and other international visitors arriving in Nepal via land routes with private vehicles.

The digital system, developed by the Department of Customs under the Ministry of Finance, allows for the completion of temporary entry permits and revenue payments online. This move aims to streamline procedures, alleviate congestion at border points, and enhance the overall experience for those visiting the country.

Appeal for Accurate Information

The board reiterated that Nepal remains a safe, welcoming, and hospitable destination for tourists hailing from India and elsewhere. The commitment of the Nepalese government to facilitate seamless cross-border travel alongside the promotion of sustainable tourism practices has not changed.

Moreover, the NTB reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring high-quality visitor experiences while nurturing the spirit of friendship and cooperation that defines the relationship between Nepal and India.
