Rajasthan Sizzles Under Severe Heatwave, Jaisalmer Hits Record 46.4°C

Rajasthan is currently experiencing the harshest heatwave, in some places, the temperature has surged breaking all records. Jaisalmer district has already reached 46.4°C, the highest temperature ever recorded in April. In the last 24 hours the heatwave has tightened its grip over all major cities of Rajasthan, with most cities crossing the 40°C mark. In districts like Barmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Dholpur, Karauli and even some parts of Jaipur, scorching sunlight and winds made life difficult. Ajmer recorded 42.5°C.

Eight years’ record broke

Kota recorded 45.7°C, raising concerns over public health and wildlife safety. The city broke its eight-year record. To protect animals from the heatwaves, temporary ponds and cooling arrangements were made at Abheda Biological Park in Kota. At the same time the northern districts of Rajasthan received temporary relief from the heatwaves. Places like Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bikaner received thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms in some areas. On Monday evening districts like Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Nagaur and Alwar received dust storms and light showers. According to weather experts the shift is due to the Western Disturbance. Yellow warning has been issued by the meteorological centre in Jaipur. An alert for thunderstorms and rainfall has been issued for 11 districts, and simultaneously, a heatwave warning has been issued for the western and central regions.

What is the condition in Pink City?

Jaipur recorded a maximum of 43.5°C (3.2 degrees above normal) and the nighttime temperature is as high as 31.7°C. Districts like Udaipur and Sikar have been under intense heat stress, with very little relief despite light showers in some pockets. Observing the condition, local authorities have intensified mitigation efforts. From sprinkling water on roads, to district collectors announcing school closures, every measure is being taken to keep people and animals safe. Temperatures in Rajasthan have risen, and weather conditions have become increasingly unpredictable, authorities are on alert and residents are on edge.
