Police Probe Rape and Murder of IRS Officer’s Daughter, Focus on Ex-Domestic Worker

The CSR Journal Magazine

The investigation into the alleged rape and murder of an IRS officer’s 22-year-old daughter has revealed that a former domestic helper managed to circumvent a four-layered security system at the family’s residence in Amar Colony, southeast Delhi. Police suspect that Rahul Meena, a 23-year-old former employee from Alwar, Rajasthan, utilised his familiarity with the home’s layout, access codes, and the locations of spare keys to gain entry on the morning of the incident while the victim’s parents were away at the gym.

Reports indicate that the residence is equipped with multiple security features, including locked access points on each floor and restricted lift access. To access the area where the victim was located, Meena had to unlock at least four different doors, three of which required passcodes. Investigators believe that Meena was aware of these codes and knew where spare keys were hidden for household staff, allowing him to navigate through the home unnoticed.

Accusations and Arrest

Meena was apprehended at a hotel in Dwarka, mere hours following the crime, charged with rape and murder inside the IRS officer’s home. According to police, he had been dismissed approximately six weeks prior due to allegations of financial misconduct after approximately eight months of service. Initial findings indicate that he had been involved in taking money for errands but failed to settle bills with local shopkeepers, instead opting to buy goods on credit, which contributed to his termination.

According to investigators, CCTV recordings confirmed that Meena entered the residential complex at about 6:28 am on the day of the crime, dressed in a yellow shirt and black trousers. Almost an hour later, footage captured him leaving the premises at around 7:22 am, this time in white trousers and what appeared to be a long-sleeved yellow top, along with a black backpack. It is speculated that he changed clothing after committing the crime and may have briefly stopped at a nearby park before fleeing.

The victim, identified as an engineering graduate and an aspirant for the UPSC examinations, was home alone at the time. Upon her parents’ return at approximately 8 am, they discovered her lying in a pool of blood, with numerous belongings scattered about. The condition of the victim indicated that she had been sexually assaulted and subsequently strangled, reportedly using a mobile phone charger cable.

Previous Allegations and Ongoing Investigation

In addition to the current case, investigators are exploring allegations suggesting that Meena may have committed a separate sexual assault in Alwar prior to his move to Delhi. Preliminary reports indicate he allegedly raped a neighbour late on Tuesday night before travelling to the national capital the following day.

In response to the situation, Delhi Police have established around fifteen teams dedicated to tracking down the alleged perpetrator, utilising extensive CCTV footage from the residential complex and adjoining roads to reconstruct his escape route. Investigators later identified an autorickshaw that is believed to have transported Meena post-crime. Following an interrogation of the driver, police learned that he had dropped the accused off at a hotel in Dwarka, which led to a raid resulting in Meena’s arrest.

This case has sparked significant public outrage, prompting continued forensic analysis, the review of surveillance footage, and examination of digital records to ascertain whether the alleged crime was premeditated.
