Police Arrest Another Suspect in DU Professor Murder Case

The investigation into the tragic murder of Delhi University professor Debosmita Paul has seen significant advancements, with authorities apprehending another suspect. This arrest follows the earlier detention of a couple associated with her murder, highlighting the seriousness of the case.

Debosmita Paul, an assistant professor at Delhi University, was found dead in her flat at Satyam Apartments in Vasundhara Enclave on June 4. According to Delhi Police officials, a PCR call was received around 2:35 pm from her sister, Devarati Paul, who claimed her sister had been murdered. She stated that the flat was locked from the outside and that Debosmita had not responded to phone calls.

Growing concern led Devarati to break open the lock, whereupon she discovered her sister’s lifeless body. This prompted an immediate response from the police, who conducted a thorough inspection of the scene and gathered forensic evidence.

Police stated that Debosmita had lived alone in her apartment for approximately four to five years, typically relying on online services for her essential needs. The investigation team is now working diligently to analyse CCTV footage both from the apartment complex and nearby areas to identify any visitors in the days leading up to the incident.

Ongoing Investigations and Potential Leads

Investigators are now looking into the specifics of the days prior to the incident. They are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage to establish a timeline of visitors to Debosmita’s flat. Sources indicate that they are collecting information about online delivery agents who may have interacted with her.

The case has been officially registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at New Ashok Nagar Police Station. With this framework in place, police aim to uncover the motivations behind this heinous act.

After a careful examination of the scene, forensic teams gathered critical samples and exhibits for further analysis. The victim’s body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital for a post-mortem examination, enabling investigators to gather more evidence pertaining to the cause of death.
