The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to commence a five-nation tour on May 15, with the first leg in the United Arab Emirates. This visit aims to fortify the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE, which is home to over 4.5 million Indians. During his time there, PM Modi is expected to hold discussions with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on key issues including trade, investment, energy, and technology.

The meetings will take place against the backdrop of recent developments concerning OPEC pipelines and regional dynamics in West Asia. Energy security will also be a significant topic, with discussions centred around India’s energy requirements met largely through imports from the UAE. This meeting highlights the ongoing commitment of both nations to deepen their collaboration.

Additionally, it is anticipated that PM Modi and President Al Nahyan will address regional and global matters of mutual interest, reinforcing the importance of their bilateral relationship in the current geopolitical landscape.

Continued Engagement in European Nations

Following his visit to the UAE, PM Modi will proceed to the Netherlands from May 15 to May 17. This marks PM Modi’s second visit to the country since 2017, a significant time for strengthening bilateral relations. The agenda includes discussions on trade, investment, and innovative technologies, particularly in the area of semiconductors. This visit also coincides with the third India Nordic Summit, emphasizing green technology and innovation.

In addition to formal discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, PM Modi is expected to engage with Their Majesties, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. He will address the Indian community in the Netherlands and meet influential business leaders, further promoting India’s economic interests abroad.

After the Netherlands, PM Modi will head to Sweden on May 17, where he will visit Gothenburg. This trip marks his second official visit to Sweden since the inaugural India-Nordic Summit in 2018. During this visit, he will participate alongside Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in discussions about artificial intelligence, resilient supply chains, and sustainable development.

Final Stops in Norway and Italy to Focus on Collaboration

On May 18, PM Modi will reach Norway, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 43 years. This trip will focus on the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) agreement, particularly in relation to the “Blue Economy”. Following this, the third India-Nordic Summit will occur in Oslo on May 19, including leaders from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden, further integrating India’s presence in Nordic cooperation.

The final segments of PM Modi’s tour will take place in Italy on May 19 and 20. He is expected to engage with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to review the “Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029”, which aims to enhance the partnership between the two nations. The tour is poised to facilitate greater collaboration across various sectors, particularly in light of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement finalized earlier this year.

In summary, PM Modi’s five-nation tour from May 15 to 20 is structured to bolster India’s strategic partnerships and foster cooperation in energy, defence, technology, and trade, reinforcing India’s role on the global stage.
