PM Modi Is Set To Launch Nationwide HPV Vaccination Campaign On Feb 28th From Ajmer

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a significant nationwide vaccination initiative aimed at administering the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to girls aged 14.

The event will take place in Ajmer, Rajasthan, on February 28, as announced by the Union health ministry. This campaign is a critical step towards combating cervical cancer, with the ministry emphasizing its dedication to enhancing vaccination coverage among young girls.

Virtual Participation from States and Union Territories

The vaccination launch event is set to include participation from representatives of all states and Union Territories via a virtual platform. According to the health ministry’s statement, the interaction will commence at approximately 11:30 am. Leaders including chief ministers, administrators, and health officials will gather at their respective local headquarters to observe the proceedings. The health ministry noted that an access link for the online event will be provided separately.

Eligibility Criteria for the Vaccination Drive

The initiative will particularly focus on girls who are 14 years old at the time of its launch. However, the health ministry specified that girls who reach the age of 15 within three months following the campaign’s commencement will also be eligible to receive the vaccine. This measure aims to ensure that a broader age group is covered during this crucial phase.

Details of the Vaccination Process

As part of the vaccination drive, a single dose of Gardasil-4 will be administered. Health professionals have made arrangements for the campaign to take place at various government health centres throughout the nation. The vaccination is designed to be voluntary, requiring prior consent from a parent or guardian for the young girls receiving the shot.

Maximizing Vaccine Coverage During the Intensive Phase

To maximize the uptake of the vaccine, a three-month intensive phase will be instituted, during which the HPV vaccine will be accessible daily. This strategic approach aims to achieve maximum coverage among the target demographic. After the three-month period, the HPV vaccine will continue to be available at designated health facilities on routine immunization days, ensuring ongoing access for those who missed the initial drive.
