Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has personally commenced the demolition of his ancestral house in Ujjain to facilitate a road-widening project ahead of the Simhastha festival in 2028. On the morning of the demolition, he struck the first blow with a pickaxe, signifying the official start of a larger initiative that will see 272 residences affected as part of preparations for the significant religious event.

The road-widening project is designed to accommodate the expected surge of devotees during the Simhastha, which attracts millions of pilgrims. The Chief Minister’s ancestral home, where he spent his childhood, will lose a section measuring 2.90 metres. This project also impacts his sister, Kalavati Yadav, as her residence is among those designated for partial demolition.

During the ceremonial initiation of the demolition, CM Yadav acknowledged the personal significance of the house. He reflected on his childhood memories associated with the location, stating, “This is the place where I grew up, playing and running around, and now I am stepping forward to dismantle it with my own hands. It certainly has an emotional impact.” Despite this personal connection, he stressed the importance of prioritising public needs and administrative requirements.

Yadav remarked on the necessity of making sacrifices for the broader community, indicating, “However, if it is necessary for the administration and essential for the Simhastha, then this sacrifice must be made. I am satisfied that we are all doing this together.” He also highlighted the community’s spirit in contributing to the project, noting the readiness of residents to cooperate with the demolition efforts.

The Chief Minister commended citizens for their willingness to support the infrastructure project, which is integral for ensuring a smooth experience for the influx of attendees expected during the Simhastha. He stated, “The entire state and the country are watching this. Mohan Yadav’s ancestral home was established in 1974 by his grandfather, Ramchandra Yadav.
