Prime Minister Narendra Modi has voiced his condolences regarding the stampede that took place at the Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai, Bihar. This led to a chaotic scene as a rumour circulated claiming that a live wire had fallen among the crowd, which was later clarified to be a cable wire.

In only a matter of minutes, the situation escalated as the rumour caused pressure on the adjoining queue of women, resulting in several individuals toppling over one another. The authorities have described the unfolding of events as rapid, occurring within approximately two minutes. Due to this sudden panic, conditions worsened as people attempted to escape.

Emergency resources were reportedly in position as part of pre-planned arrangements, with ambulances and police personnel situated within 200 metres of the scene. The swift response of these services aided in the immediate transportation of victims to Sadar Hospital, where medical support was made available to those injured.
