PM Modi Arrives In Netherlands To Deepen India-EU Partnership On Technology And Trade

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands on May 16 is designed to enhance bilateral relations across key sectors. In a post on ‘X’, he expressed his enthusiasm about fostering cooperation in areas such as semiconductors, water management, and clean energy. The two-day visit underscores the importance of the ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement, which has reportedly revitalised trade and investment exchanges between the two regions.

During his trip, Modi is scheduled to meet Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and will pay a visit to King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. He also plans to engage with the Indian community residing in the Netherlands, further solidifying cultural ties. The focus on technology and sustainable practices aligns with both nations’ strategic goals.

Upon arriving in Amsterdam, Modi received a warm welcome from Dutch officials, including Rear Admiral Ludger Brummelaar, the Chief of the Military Household of His Majesty the King, as well as Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen and Indian Ambassador Kumar Tuhin. This reception highlights the significance of this visit in strengthening diplomatic connections.

Engagements with Local Communities and Leaders

As he interacted with the Indian diaspora, Prime Minister Modi was met with enthusiastic responses. Modi characterised the UAE as a “second home,” expressing gratitude for the hospitality extended during his previous visits.

During discussions with the UAE leadership, Modi condemned the recent attacks against the country, underscoring India’s alignment with the UAE’s stance against these threats. He praised the leadership for their poise and wisdom in navigating challenging circumstances, thereby highlighting the robust bilateral support during crises.

Strengthening Ties and Expressing Solidarity

Modi reciprocated the condolences extended by UAE leaders over a recent natural disaster in Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating India’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with its Gulf partners. He noted the importance of national unity and security in the region, conveying India’s solidarity with the UAE.

Moreover, Modi acknowledged the support provided by the UAE government and royal family for the Indian community during difficult times. He reiterated the need for collaborative efforts to address regional challenges while fostering mutual interests between the two nations.
