Previous Visit to Slovakia and Its Significance

Prior to his arrival in France, Prime Minister Modi completed a visit to Slovakia, which he described as a “historic and productive” trip. He highlighted that the visit would reinforce the bilateral ties between India and Slovakia. In this context, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico personally saw Modi off, symbolising the close rapport between the two nations.

On this visit, Modi was awarded Slovakia’s highest civilian honour, The Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), by President Peter Pellegrini. This recognition marked the thirty-third instance of international acknowledgment for Modi from a foreign country, illustrating the diplomatic relationships he has cultivated.

The visit resulted in the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors, including education, research, and technology. These agreements are designed to enhance talent mobility and professional safety while fostering collaborative efforts in higher education and cultural exchanges.
