Independent Member of Parliament Rajesh Ranjan, commonly known as Pappu Yadav, has asserted that his skit regarding the alleged embezzlement of donations for the Ram Mandir was a dignified form of protest outside Parliament. In light of BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal’s notice for a privilege motion against him, Yadav indicated he would present his case to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Yadav questioned how his protest could result in privilege motion proceedings, while he claimed remarks made against historical leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi are deemed acceptable. He stated, “You can prevent the Leader of the Opposition from speaking in the House, that is fine, but a dignified protest outside should not invoke such measures.” He also confirmed his intention to submit a letter to the Speaker outlining his position.

Privilege Motion Details

Sanjay Jaiswal has submitted a Notice of Breach of Privilege and Contempt of the House, addressing Pappu Yadav’s actions on July 31, when he allegedly donned attire resembling a Hindu saint within the Parliamentary complex. This action was reportedly aimed at mocking religious sentiments and undermining the dignity of the House.

In his privilege motion, Jaiswal has invoked Rule 222 in conjunction with Rule 223 of the Lok Sabha’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. He has requested that the matter be reviewed and, if deemed appropriate, referred to the Committee of Privileges for a comprehensive examination.

As the controversy surrounding Pappu Yadav’s skit continues, some Members of Parliament have voiced their support for him. TMC MP Kirti Azad defended Yadav, asserting that he merely highlighted a significant issue regarding alleged theft at the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Police Investigation into Alleged Attack

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into an alleged attack on MP Pappu Yadav during a press conference at his residence. An FIR has been lodged, with the police invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those pertaining to obstructing a public servant and assaulting them in the performance of their duties.

Authorities have identified two individuals in connection with the presumed knife attack against Yadav, namely Sumit Sharma and Happy Sharma. One of the suspects has reportedly been detained at the Tilak Marg Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

The actions taken against Pappu Yadav and the subsequent police response reflect ongoing tensions within India’s political landscape. The incident has attracted considerable attention, with implications for parliamentary decorum and the safety of public representatives.
