Congress Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi has issued a statement condemning the Centre following the acquittal of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in a sexual harassment case. The allegations arose from complaints by women wrestlers during Singh’s tenure as head of the WFI. Gandhi’s comments highlight a perceived inconsistency in the government’s stance on women’s safety and empowerment.

Gandhi stated, “On one hand they claim to support the younger generation and advocate for women’s empowerment and reservation, while on the other hand, they exhibit hypocrisy with decisions like these.” The case has garnered significant media attention, with many advocating for stringent measures to ensure justice for victims.

The charges against Singh included allegations of sexual harassment, use of criminal force against women, and intimidation, and were formally filed by the Delhi Police when they submitted a chargesheet in 2023.
