Pakistan has violated ceasefire, Indian Army will respond: Vikram Misri

India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri has confirmed that Pakistani military has carried out multiple ceasefire violations. He further said that the Indian Army would respond ‘adequately’ and ‘appropriately’ to this gesture from Pakistan. This comes shortly after India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire on Saturday evening. The ceasefire commenced from 5 pm on May 10, 2025 and was violated after a couple of hours.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, both countries had agreed to stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea from 5 PM on May 10. However, Pakistan violated ceasefire multiple times.

During a briefing late on Saturday, Vikram Misri said that the Pakistani government should take responsibility for the ceasefire violation. He said, “This intrusion is extremely condemnable and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion.”

Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah expresses concern over ceasefire violation

Soon after ceasefire was declared, multiple drones were spotted in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat’s Kutch, Punjab and Rajasthan on Saturday. India’s air defence system intercepted and blocked several drones. Blackouts have been enforced in several and the public is asked to stay indoors in several districts.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media platform X late on Saturday to express concern about explosions being heard across Srinagar even after ceasefire was declared between India and Pakistan. In two separate X posts he wrote:

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”

“This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”

India and Pakistan declared ceasefire on Saturday

US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan and stated that the talks between the countries had been mediated by America. The ceasefire deal was confirmed by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the same.

However, despite ceasefire announcement, the Government of India said that it would remain “fully prepared” and “ever-vigilant” and any future escalation by Pakistan will invite a “decisive response”.

Also, the ceasefire with Pakistan was declared on a condition that there will be no change in India’s position on the diplomatic measures against its neighbour, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, as per sources.
