Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heavyweight and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, made a bold prediction on the future electoral landscape of the Malda district, claiming the BJP would win a near-total majority of the assembly segments here in the upcoming elections.
Adhikari made the statement upon his arrival at Old Malda station via a special train, en route to a party program in South Dinajpur. He was accorded a warm reception by the Malda district BJP leadership and party workers, who greeted him with party flags, bouquets, and traditional scarves.
Bold Electoral Projections
Addressing the gathering at the station, the senior BJP leader confidently asserted the party’s potential dominance in the district, which has historically seen varied results.
“In the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP will start with six, but it could reach eight, or even nine. Where it will stop, I do not know,” Adhikari stated. He then drastically raised the target, claiming the BJP had a strong chance of winning eleven out of the twelve assembly seats in Malda.
He singled out only one constituency, Sujapur, as a potential challenge: “The only place where the Hindu population is only eight per cent, that is Sujapur, I do not know what will happen there. Besides that one seat, the BJP has the potential to win all 11.”
