Sanjay Raut Alleges Corruption in Nashik Kumbh Preparation, Claims “No One Takes CM Seriously”

Allegations of significant corruption surrounding the Kumbh-related works in Nashik have been raised by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut. During a recent press conference, Raut expressed that both the general public and religious leaders have voiced their discontent regarding the arrangements, predicting instability for the Maharashtra government despite its parliamentary strength.

Raut highlighted that there had been a notable boycott by Nashik residents of a conference led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, characterising the situation as indicative of widespread dissatisfaction. He stated, “The residents of Nashik boycotted the Chief Minister’s conference. Corruption is rampant in Nashik. We criticised this, and so did the seers and saints. People have stopped taking the Chief Minister seriously. Despite having a majority, this government will not last long.”

His comments emerged amid an escalating political dispute concerning alleged corruption in the preparations for the forthcoming Sinhasth Mahakumbh in Nashik, a prominent religious event.

In response to the claims made by Raut and others, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accused the Congress party of attempting to undermine the credibility of the upcoming Kumbh by consistently levelling accusations of malpractice regarding the preparations. Fadnavis described these charges as part of a deliberate effort to tarnish the reputation of the religious gathering.

He emphasised the transparency of the Kumbh-related projects, noting that all such initiatives had been made accessible to the public: “All the projects have already been made public. There is not a single project kept hidden. Everything is available in the public domain. They should check all of it,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister’s remarks included a defence against the accusations of misconduct, claiming that those advancing such allegations were deliberately attempting to instil distrust among the populace. “Those who have corruption in their minds and whose conduct involves corruption are coming here every day and alleging corruption. This is a deliberate conspiracy, a strategy to repeatedly make such allegations so that the Kumbh Mela is defamed,” he said.

Furthermore, Fadnavis acknowledged the inconveniences faced by Nashik residents resulting from several infrastructure projects being executed concurrently. He assured the residents, stating, “I want to tell the people of Nashik that because a large number of works are being undertaken simultaneously, there are some difficulties at present. But once these works are completed, we will certainly transform the face of Nashik.”

Addressing concerns regarding operational inefficiencies, Fadnavis admitted there had been delays with some projects managed by Mahanagar Gas. He noted that he had personally intervened to ensure a more coordinated effort in project completion.

The Chief Minister expressed optimism that all necessary infrastructure related to the Kumbh would be finalised well in advance of the first ‘Parvani’ and prior to the initiation of preparations for the Sadhugram. He stated that the formal flag-hoisting ceremony for the Nashik Kumbh Mela would occur on October 31, followed by a schedule of events pertaining to the gathering.

Amidst these exchanges, the situation continues to evolve as both political leaders and local residents closely monitor the developments leading up to this significant religious celebration.
