INDIA Bloc Projected to Lead BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Survey Finds

The CSR Journal Magazine

The latest findings from the Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey suggest that if Lok Sabha elections were conducted today, the INDIA bloc might have an advantage over the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh. According to the August 2026 MOTN survey, the INDIA bloc is projected to secure 41 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, while the NDA is forecasted to win 38 seats. Additionally, one seat appears to be contested by candidates outside these two alliances.

Details of the Survey Conducted

The Mood of the Nation survey is a bi-annual poll commissioned by the India Today Group, with a history spanning nearly two decades. The August 2026 edition was conducted by CVoter, involving a sample size of 25,184 respondents who were directly surveyed between July 1 and August 25. Additionally, insights from 91,795 interviews conducted during the previous six months were integrated into the survey results, enhancing the data’s reliability.

Notably, the recent results demonstrate a shift in voter sentiments compared to the January 2026 MOTN survey, which projected that the NDA would win 48 seats against the INDIA bloc’s 31 in the state. The August figures reflect an increase of ten seats for the INDIA bloc, while the NDA’s seat projection decreased by the same number, indicating changing dynamics in voter preference.

The August projections further indicate that the INDIA bloc is slightly ahead of the NDA when compared to their respective performances in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In that election, the INDIA bloc secured 43 seats while the NDA obtained 36. However, the latest survey numbers suggest that both blocs are experiencing a minor shift in support, with the INDIA bloc projected to have 41 seats and the NDA 38 in the upcoming elections.

Comparative Analysis of Previous Surveys

The comparison between the recent survey and past data demonstrates a notable change in projected outcomes. For the INDIA bloc, the latest calculations suggest a decrease of two seats from their 2024 tally. In contrast, the NDA’s projected results have seen an increase of two seats when measured against the recent findings. This reversal in prospects highlights the fluid nature of electoral dynamics in Uttar Pradesh.

Experts suggest that the evolving political landscape may impact the strategies adopted by both alliances as they prepare for the Lok Sabha elections. The survey results may influence candidate selection and campaign focuses, especially in a state that holds substantial sway over national election outcomes. Given Uttar Pradesh’s significant population and electoral weight, both the NDA and the INDIA bloc will likely intensify their efforts to appeal to the electorate in the coming months.

As the political environment continues to evolve, future surveys may provide further insights into voter preferences and trends. The political parties’ responses to these findings will likely shape their election strategies, potentially altering the balance of power ahead of critical national polls. Uttar Pradesh remains a pivotal battleground that could determine the overall results in upcoming elections, making these survey outcomes particularly consequential.
