Nvidia’s recent hiring ambitions are notable, particularly as it has opted to increase its recruitment of H-1B visa employees during a period when many American tech companies are laying off staff and reducing foreign hiring. The company, known for its essential role in the advancing field of artificial intelligence, reportedly obtained certifications for approximately 1,200 H-1B positions in the first half of the fiscal year 2026, a rise from about 1,000 positions in the same time frame last year.

Data referenced in the report illustrates a stark drop in approved H-1B positions at other major tech firms. For example, Google’s approved H-1B hires fell to around 2,200, down from 5,100 in the previous year, whilst Amazon’s approvals decreased significantly, dropping to approximately 4,300 from 6,100.

In light of these circumstances, Nvidia’s decision to broaden its hiring for foreign talent has garnered considerable attention. The company has positioned itself as a foremost beneficiary of the ongoing AI transition, supplying technology that fuels various applications, including those similar to ChatGPT, and substantial AI data centres across the tech landscape.

This trend holds particular importance for Indian technology professionals, who represent a significant portion of H-1B visa holders in the United States. The growth in recruitment is likely to primarily benefit this demographic, given they account for around 71 per cent to 73 per cent of approved H-1B beneficiaries.

Competitive Salaries For New Roles

Nvidia’s recruitment strategy also includes a compelling compensation structure, with federal filings showcasing some of the industry’s highest salary offerings to attract top talent in AI, engineering, and research. Software engineers at Nvidia could earn as much as $391,000 annually, equivalent to around Rs 3.72 crore, while research scientists might receive up to $356,500, translating to Rs 3.39 crore.

Other roles, such as product managers and hardware engineering managers, can command salaries near Rs 3.61 crore and Rs 3.50 crore respectively. The zenith of compensation reaches up to $488,750 for architecture directors, which is approximately Rs 4.64 crore annually. These high levels of pay do not include potential stock options and bonuses, which could substantially enhance total earnings.

Nvidia’s hiring focus spans various fields, including AI research, software development, semiconductor design, cloud infrastructure, as well as technical roles directly interfacing with customers, indicating a robust commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the market.

Despite Nvidia’s intent to ramp up hiring, the broader context surrounding the H-1B visa situation remains uncertain. Recent regulatory changes and stricter compliance measures have caused many organisations to be more cautious about hiring foreign workers.
