NIA Raids Three States in Cambodia Cyber Slavery Trafficking Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at six different sites in three states on Tuesday as part of its investigation into human trafficking and cyber slavery connected to Cambodia. This action targeted locations associated with individuals linked to a criminal syndicate accused of enticing Indian youth with fraudulent promises of high-paying jobs abroad.

The specific raids took place in the Bihar districts of Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, and East Champaran, as well as locations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The agency has reported the seizure of various items, including smartphones, laptops, digital devices, and other pertinent documents during these operations.

These searches aimed to uncover more evidence against suspects already in custody, as well as other absconding individuals connected to the case. The NIA’s investigative efforts highlight ongoing concerns surrounding human trafficking networks operating within India.

Allegations Against the Accused

At the centre of this investigation is Anand Kumar Singh, also known as Munna Singh, who is reportedly the mastermind behind the syndicate. The NIA’s probe has revealed a systematic scheme where vulnerable Indian youth were recruited through sub-agents and travel agents. These individuals were then sent to Cambodia, often under the misguided belief that they would secure legitimate employment opportunities.

Upon arrival in Cambodia, the victims’ passports were reportedly confiscated, rendering them vulnerable. They were then allegedly handed over to fraudulent companies, where they were subjected to harsh working conditions. Victims have disclosed that any resistance to work conditions led to severe mistreatment, including psychological and physical abuse.

The agency has detailed instances of mental and physical torture inflicted upon victims, which included electric shocks, forced confinement, and the withholding of food and water. This systematic abuse underscores the magnitude of the trafficking issue that is of serious concern to the Indian authorities.

Legal Proceedings and Previous Arrests

The NIA has been actively pursuing legal action against those implicated. In May of this year, the agency filed a chargesheet naming Anand Kumar Singh and four of his associates: Prahlad Kumar Singh, Abhay Nath Dubey, Abhiranjan Kumar, and Rohit Yadav. These individuals have been identified as critical players in the operation of the trafficking syndicate.

Earlier incidents indicate a broader crackdown on this network. In February 2026, three of Anand’s associates were apprehended upon their return from Cambodia to Delhi. Their arrests highlighted the ongoing challenge faced by law enforcement in dismantling complex trafficking operations.

The latest raids reflect the NIA’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking practices and bringing perpetrators to justice. They form part of a wider strategy aimed at tracing the network and collecting more evidence to bolster the agency’s case against those involved in these illegal activities.
