The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has inaugurated a 27.1-kilometre-long, six-lane section from Deogarh, located near Dhandhaniya, to the Rajasthan-Gujarat border on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor. This development is expected to significantly enhance road connectivity between northern India and several critical ports in Gujarat.

This new stretch is designed to reduce the time taken for freight transit, thereby advancing logistics and promoting trade. By efficiently linking industrial centres and refining hubs, it aims to facilitate quicker access for commercial activities. The project serves to bolster overall economic activities by improving transportation infrastructure in the region.

Enhanced Connectivity to Major Ports

NHAI has reported that the recently opened section establishes a direct route connecting the industrial hubs of northern India with both Kandla and Mundra Ports in Gujarat. This direct link is anticipated to expedite cargo movement, which is advantageous for industries that depend on road transport for distributing goods.

The growth in connectivity is expected to yield faster and more efficient transportation of cargo, significantly benefiting businesses operating in sectors where road transport plays a critical role in the supply chain. With increased efficiency, companies that rely on timely deliveries will be better positioned to meet market demands.

The corridor is also said to provide direct access to three major refineries, thereby streamlining the movement of petroleum products and industrial goods. The improved transport routes are intended to lower travel times for commercial vehicles, in turn heightening overall supply chain efficacy.

Impact on Trade and Logistics

NHAI emphasised that the new highway stretch will substantially boost India’s trade competitiveness by advancing regional logistics. Enhanced road infrastructure is expected to facilitate quicker transportation and smoother goods movement across state lines, ultimately benefiting various sectors.

As a pivotal infrastructure project, the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor is aimed at strengthening the link between significant industrial areas and major ports in the country. This initiative is a step towards constructing a more integrated national transportation network, which is crucial for economic advancement.

NHAI underlined that the completion of this corridor is a vital advancement in developing an efficient highway network that can support economic growth and trade across India. The newly functional stretch represents a commitment to improving transport facilities vital for sustaining robust economic activity in the region.
