Newly Elected Tamil Nadu MLAs To Take Oath At Chennai Secretariat

The CSR Journal Magazine

The newly elected MLAs in Tamil Nadu are prepared to take their oaths at the Secretariat in Chennai, marking a significant step following the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) triumph in the Assembly elections. This ceremonial event is anticipated to draw a range of elected officials and government personnel, with heightened security measures enforced in the vicinity of the Secretariat as a precaution.

The swearing-in is not only a formal ritual but also a critical moment reflecting the party’s political ascendancy. The event highlights the commencement of legislative duties for the party members within the Tamil Nadu Assembly. In addition, the 17th Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu has been convened for its inaugural session on this date, slated for 9.30 AM in the Legislative Assembly Chamber.

First Session of the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly

The first session of the newly formed legislative assembly will also involve the election of both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. This procedural obligation forms an essential part of the assembly’s functioning, ensuring that its leadership is established as the members settle into their roles. The call for this session sets the stage for a new legislative period in Tamil Nadu.

In a related development, MV Karuppaiah from TVK was sworn in as the Pro Tem Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. This ceremony occurred in the presence of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The Pro Tem Speaker is entrusted with the responsibility of administering oaths to fellow newly elected members, thereby facilitating their official entry into the assembly.

Karuppaiah, who represents Sholavandan, has stepped into this role at a pivotal juncture in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, following the TVK’s unprecedented success in the recent elections. His position enables him to formally engage with all new MLAs as they begin their legislative commitments.

Chief Minister Vijay’s Assumption of Office

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, who heads the TVK, was officially inaugurated as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat. His leadership is noted for a historic electoral performance, having secured 108 seats in the Assembly, which marks the first time in years that the DMK and AIADMK’s long-standing dominance has been challenged.

Popularly known by the moniker ‘Thalapathy’, Vijay’s elevation to the chief ministership has prompted comparisons with former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, another figure from the film industry who transitioned into a significant political role. This metamorphosis of Vijay into a political leader exemplifies a notable transformation in Tamil Nadu’s electoral dynamics.

Prior to taking his current role, Vijay submitted his resignation from the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly constituency to Assembly Principal Secretary K Srinivasan, retaining his seat in Perambur. This administrative move is part of the formalities that accompany a new chief minister’s assumption of office, ensuring a smooth transition within state governance.
