Namita Thapar’s Instagram Reel Sparks Controversy Over Namaz Health Benefits

The CSR Journal Magazine

Entrepreneur Namita Thapar has addressed the backlash she received following an Instagram reel discussing the health benefits of namaz. The reel was shared on March 25, just after Eid, and quickly drew criticism from various quarters of social media. In her video, Thapar, who is well-known as a judge on the popular show Shark Tank India, acknowledged that she and her mother faced relentless name-calling for the last three weeks due to her comments on the subject.

In her original reel, Thapar referred to Eid as a time for “gratitude, giving, togetherness, and oneness.” She expressed appreciation to a friend who introduced her to the possible health advantages associated with practicing namaz. She described namaz as a comprehensive exercise that enhances flexibility and encourages better blood circulation.

Thapar’s Call for Respect Across Religions

In her response video, Thapar, who identifies herself as a healthcare professional, noted that she has previously created content focused on various religions without facing similar backlash. She pointed out that she frequently shares posts about Hindu practices, particularly on occasions like Yoga Day, yet received no criticism in those instances. “I have made several reels on Hindu religious practices and their health benefits,” she remarked, implying a disparity in reactions based on religious contexts.

Thapar stressed the importance of mutual respect among different faiths, stating, “I was taught that ‘R for religion’ means ‘R for respect.’ And this is how you show respect? Especially towards two women?” Her comments indicate a belief that the way women are treated online merits more widespread concern and dialogue.

Referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent apology to the mothers and daughters of the nation after the unsuccessful push for the Women’s Reservation Bill, Thapar further questioned the silence surrounding online abuse directed at women. She noted, “People speak up when the Women’s Reservation Bill is not passed, but when two women are disrespected like this, why the silence?”

Thapar Advocates for Speaking Up Against Abuses

Thapar conveyed that she has learned the importance of standing up for oneself in the face of adversity. She remarked, “Nobody will speak up for you. You have to speak up for yourself,” which highlights her resolve in addressing online harassment. She also invoked the principle of karma, reminding her audience that their actions have consequences. “Hinduism has a concept called Karma. God is watching,” she stated firmly.

In closing, Thapar called upon those who believe in fostering respect among faiths to share her positive message rather than propagate negativity. She highlighted that her earlier negative reels had garnered significant attention and urged viewers to make her response video equally viral. “Now make this one go viral,” she concluded, seeking to amplify her message of hope and resilience.

The initial reel’s reception demonstrated a range of public sentiments, with certain viewers posting sarcastic remarks and critical comments. Some users expressed relief that they had not followed her, while others questioned her understanding of holistic health practices, suggesting alternatives for health benefits.
