Mothabari Incident: NIA Set to Submit Comprehensive 25-Page Report to Supreme Court Today

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is scheduled to submit a detailed status report to the Supreme Court today regarding the violent assault on judicial officers in Mothabari. This submission follows an intensive investigation into the security breach that has sparked nationwide concern.

Key Findings and the 25-Page Document

According to investigative sources, the NIA has compiled a 25-page report in Delhi, based on a rigorous collection of evidence and eyewitness testimonies. The document aims to provide a “complete picture” of the events leading up to and following the incident.

The report reportedly includes:
• Direct Statements: Formal accounts from the affected judges.
• Local Perspectives: Depositions from local police officials and primary eyewitnesses.
• Timeline Analysis: A reconstruction of the security lapses that allowed the situation to escalate.

NIA Inspector General Sonia Singh has reportedly arrived in the capital to oversee the submission process. The central agency is focusing on a critical question: how a mob managed to surround and attack judges who were performing duties under the direct mandate of the Supreme Court.

Investigation Progress: Questioning of Election Officials

In a significant development, NIA officials interrogated 22 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from the Mothabari region. Investigators believe these officials have provided crucial insights into the gathering of the crowd and the atmosphere at the Kaliachak Block II Development Office (BDO) prior to the violence.

Background: A Night of Chaos

The incident unfolded last Wednesday at the Kaliachak Block II BDO office. Despite a heavy presence of police and central paramilitary forces, the judicial officers’ convoy was intercepted by a violent mob after leaving the premises.

Chronology of the Attack:
1. The Standoff: A large crowd, primarily consisting of women, breached the BDO office during the day. Though cleared by central forces, the mob remained stationed outside.
2. The Ambush: As the judges attempted to depart under police escort at night, their vehicles were pelted with stones.
3. Casualties: The windshield of one vehicle was shattered by bricks, leaving the driver seriously injured. He remains under treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital.

Legal Implications

On Sunday, investigators traveled to Ballygunge to record the statement of one of the female judges involved in the ordeal.

The Supreme Court is expected to review the NIA’s findings today to determine the next course of legal action and address the apparent failure of local administration and police to maintain the safety of the judiciary. The state remains on high alert as the highest court in the land prepares to weigh in on the investigation’s progress.
