The BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Tarun Chugh has formally requested that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) investigate claims involving a young man allegedly tortured by police after protesting against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The case revolves around Mohanjeet Singh, who reportedly displayed a black flag during the Chief Minister’s public engagement in Sheron village within the Sunam Assembly constituency on 2nd September.

Chugh asserts that Mohanjeet was detained immediately following the protest, during which he allegedly endured severe mistreatment while in police custody. Reports indicate that he was stripped, physically assaulted, and subjected to electric shocks, all of which have raised significant concern regarding police conduct.

In his allegations, Mohanjeet has claimed he was treated inhumanely, which included police personnel allegedly pulling hair from his beard and cutting his thighs with a blade, followed by the application of salt on his wounds. Moreover, he has stated that during this ordeal, he was subjected to a video call with Chief Minister Mann, further intensifying the severity of his accusations.
