The recent investigation into the tragic incident involving the murder of a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior Income Tax officer in Delhi, has unveiled crucial information regarding the accused, Rahul Meena. Reportedly, he was on the phone with his cousin, Trilok, while leaving the crime scene. CCTV footage tracked Rahul’s movements, confirming he was speaking continuously as he exited the residence located in Amar Colony.

During this call, Rahul allegedly confessed to committing a heinous act, stating, “Maine Delhi mein kaand kar diya hai, main ab marne wala hoon police mujhe pakad legi.” Despite this claim, he denied involvement in the concurrent rape case in Alwar, asserting that he only went to retrieve his mobile phone and had not harmed anyone.

Furthermore, both the victim and the perpetrator’s mobile phones are reported missing, raising further concerns about the events leading to the heinous crime.

Sequence of Events Across States

Authorities uncovered that Rahul allegedly committed two separate offences in different states within a 12-hour timeframe. The first incident occurred on Tuesday night at approximately 10.30 pm in Alwar, Rajasthan, where he reportedly attacked and raped a local woman. It is alleged that he physically assaulted the survivor, threatened her, and warned her against disclosing the incident, prompting her to file a complaint.

Shortly after this incident, Rahul is believed to have travelled nearly 200 km to Delhi, arriving at a housing complex in Kailash Hills around 6.30 am. He gained entry into the residence of his former employer at around 6.39 am. The victim, who was preparing for the UPSC examinations, was home alone. By 8 am, her parents discovered her in a critical state, with bloodshed evident throughout the premises.

Police reports indicate that Rahul used his knowledge of the house’s layout to execute the crime. He allegedly attacked the victim using a lamp and a heavy object, subsequently choking her. Investigators suspect he may have assaulted her during her unconscious state before attempting to access her belongings, including a locker.

Evidence and Arrest Developments

Authorities have recovered items including cash and jewellery, reported to be worth over Rs 1 lakh, from a hotel in Dwarka where Rahul had checked in post-crime. Payments for his stay were allegedly made using stolen funds. CCTV footage captured his entrance to the housing society in a yellow shirt and black trousers, while later recordings showed him leaving in different attire with a backpack.

Police successfully traced his movements via CCTV and identified an auto-rickshaw he used to flee the scene. The driver cooperated with the investigation, leading police to the hotel where Rahul was apprehended hours later. He is currently in custody, facing charges related to both incidents.

Following his arrest, Rahul is scheduled to undergo a reconstruction of both crime scenes in Alwar and Delhi. Investigators are looking into his background, exploring connections between his financial dealings and the motivation for his actions.

Financial Background Under Investigation

Reports suggest that Rahul was deeply involved in online betting activities and had engaged in borrowing money from various individuals. Authorities are working to identify those who lent him funds, as his financial circumstances appear to play a crucial role in the events that transpired. Family members have indicated that his visit to Delhi was related to an alleged dispute over money and a mobile device.

Before his arrest, Rahul had been employed as domestic help at the victim’s household for nearly a year, having been recommended by a colleague. He was dismissed following concerns about his financial habits and documented irregularities. Sources indicate that Rahul had previously borrowed money from the family for errands but failed to settle debts with local shopkeepers.

Police are examining Rahul’s behavioural patterns, noting his history of aggressive conduct. Reports suggest that he has a troubled family background, which investigators are currently assessing for any significant patterns. Despite the severity of his alleged actions, sources suggest that he showed little remorse during police interviews, attempting to rationalise his behaviour.
